The 2018 Al-Maqasid Summer Family Retreat will be held from August 6 to August 12, 2018, at Camp Weequahic in Lakewood, Pennsylvania (www.weequahic.com). For this year’s retreat, we are in the midst of making arrangements to bring Habib Hussein Al-Saqaf back for another blessed appearance. We will confirm his attendance upon receipt of his visa, in sha’Allah. Additionally, we are blessed to confirm the attendance of Hisham Mahmoud, Amin Muhammad, Mona Hassan, Yahya Rhodus, Amjad Tarsin, Munshids Nader Khan, Ibrahim Nass and Uthman Ames. We are also excited to announce a special weekend program with former NBA player and social justice activist Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.
Al-Maqasid Summer retreats aim to engage all members of the family from young children, youth/teens to adults. The adult/general program will include a diverse range of lectures based on the retreat theme, opportunities for private counseling with an Instructor, Q&A sessions in a small group setting, a pre-Fajr program of litanies and prayers, and leisure activities during extended breaks. Our youth program will include class lessons, breakout sessions consisting of calligraphy, art classes, and martial arts, swimming, sports, ropes course, team building challenges and special visits from our Instructors. A full-fledged Childcare program will be available for children between the ages of 2-5. The curriculum will include Islamic music circles, story time, arts & crafts, gross motor and sensory activities, and free play.
