Madrasa Al-Nash' Al-Ṣāliḥ
Mission
The Al-Maqasid Madrasa seeks to set students on the path of knowledge, service, and devotion at an early age. In 2020, Habib Umar bin Hafiz blessed the Madrasa by giving it the name Al-Nash' Al-Ṣāliḥ, which translates to “Righteous Upbringing.” This name exemplifies what we aim to achieve: to cultivate in students a deep love of Allah ﷻ and His Beloved ﷺ, create a firm foundation rooted in sacred knowledge and the Prophetic inheritance, and provide an environment to nourish their souls and allow them to reach their fullest potential as upright believers, steadfast in their religion and of benefit to all of humanity, inshā' Allah
History
The Madrasa began as a part-time beta program in October of 2019 with a group of 10 children in a neighborhood basement. AlhamdulilAllah by the grace and mercy of Allah swt we have since tripled in numbers and are currently operating on-site at Al-Maqasid. Our intention is to organically expand such that we can serve the needs of all local children who would like to benefit from the program.
Program Overview
The core subjects covered at the Madrasa during this school year include Quran/Arabic, Hadith, Fiqh, Sira, and Adab. In addition to these main subjects, students memorize various invocations, learn the adab of seeking knowledge, and develop skills to help them deal with their emotions. It is important to note that, as with most traditional Islamic learning, there is an emphasis on memorization in Arabic in many of the subjects.
Depending on the subject, classes are held either collectively or the students are divided into smaller groups based on ability/proficiency in the topic and/or their age and gender.
Collaboration with Parents
The success of the madrasa program depends on the active involvement of parents in their child(ren)’s learning. Madrasa teachers employ a variety of teaching techniques to help students learn and memorize the material while in class. However, given that memorization requires consistent repetition and review and that madrasa only meets twice a week, a fair amount of memorization must happen at home. We consider parents as our co-teachers and strive to provide them with all the resources they need to help their child(ren) learn and memorize the material.
The Ideal Learning Environment
We believe that each student can reach his/her highest potential at madrasa with the right learning environment in class and at home. Parents can help create this ideal environment by doing the following:
Setting aside 10-15 minutes each day for their child(ren) review materials/lines for memorization
Asking their children about what they learned and discussing any questions as a family
Minimizing and regulating their child(ren)’s exposure to media and screens

Registration
Registration is open to all children ages six to ten. Children must be six years of age by September 1st of the year of enrollment.* Children who enroll at ten years of age can continue with madrasa until they complete the program.
Parents interested in enrolling their children should complete the Application Interest Form. Please note that submission of the Registration Interest Form does not guarantee enrollment in Madrasa. Once submitted, each Registration Interest Form is time-stamped and families are contacted in the order that their forms were received until maximum enrollment is reached. At that point, students are placed on a waitlist in the order that their forms were received. A detailed description of the waitlist process can be found here.
Parents will be contacted when a spot becomes available for their child. Parents will be asked to schedule a Family Interview with the Madrasa team. The interview is an opportunity for the Madrasa team to get to know students and their families, to explain the program, and to answer any specific questions or concerns.
Please note that enrollment is prioritized based on a number of factors, including whether the student is a returning student, the child of a madrasa staff or board member, or the sibling of a student currently attending madrasa. For a detailed description of enrollment priorities, please see our Admissions Priorities.
*Last year the madrasa accepted students beginning at age five. However, the team found that most five-year-olds were not developmentally ready to sit and participate in the type of program that the madrasa offers and decided to begin enrollment at age six for this year. We are grateful for everyone’s patience as we continue to learn and make changes with the intention to best serve our students.
